COVID Part 2

So I apologies for taking so long to tell you the continuation of my COVID experience...

Maybe I am over reacting, but... well you tell me?

So, When you think about specialists, you think "They know what they are doing" well I am thinking that the ball was dropped. They sent me HOME! My own CF specialist sent me HOME!

I had finally gotten a room for the night, and they sent me home the next day. THE NEXT DAY!

They gave me more magnesium, and some more saline in the IV line, that they put in the crook of my elbow. Who does that? Don't bend you arm, cause it's gonna kink the line, and stop working, then the blasted machine will beep at you. Grrr!

So, I don't recommend getting an IV there, it hurts and it is very limiting.

In order yo get healthy, you have to want to be in the right frame of mind, and I was NOT!

So maybe, deep down or maybe on the surface, I just wanted to go home. But it has happened before that Ottawa have transferred me to my home town hospital. But they didn't, they just sent me home. To be fair... no there was nothing fair about it.

Treating COVID pneumonia, is not like traditional methods. Well not for me anyhow. I am multi resistant to most methods or options for me. Being multi resistant basically means that there aren't very many options for antibiotics that they can use to treat my infections or exacerbations.

So, my love had to come back to the hospital after being sent home late the night before, to pick me up.

The only direction I got when I left... take it easy! No meds to take while I am home. NOTHING!

It has taken me long time, to be able to share this, mainly because I was so ashamed and so defeated on how I was treated. I didn't think I should have posted right away.

When I got to my room, I was told I was dehydrated, I had received Iv Magnesium, because my levels were so out of whack. I was still coughing, because well they didn't give me anything to treat my pneumonia. Being all multi resistant and such.

At one point I was home, my O2 levels were dropping. I had messaged my CF nurse in Ottawa, who was the one that told me to go to Ottawa and they would meet me. We know that was a lie. I do know that the team at the hospital in my hometown, would take care of. Anyway I am getting off the story here.

So, my nurse in Ottawa told me, that should me levels dip below 90% then I should call an ambulance for supplemental oxygen. Let me tell you something, I couldn't walk from my bedroom to the bathroom, without being winded, and almost falling down. I have an Oximetry reader and my lever dropped. I call 911, to get an ambulance out here. I got the Paramedic Supervisor here who took me levels. I advised her that I did test positive for COVID, and it was confirmed with the hospital in Ottawa.

*SIDE NOTE: I was never treated with anything that was proven to work for COVID while I was in the hospital. Boo, they told me it was too late. It had been 3 days since my test came back positive on Sunday, then proven on Monday in Ottawa... but it's too late... AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

The  Medic Supervisor was fantastic. She asked me if I would be able to walk to the ambulance, I told her, there are no guarantees, but I don't think I would be able to. I stood up, walked from the chair in my living room, and almost passed out by the time I got to the door. Lucky for me, she caught me, another medic grabbed my other side, and braced me to get into the ambulance.

I think my only complaint about the whole ride, I think that ambulance was sitting in the parking lot, ot was so cold. I was shivering. Anyway, I was just in a Squirrel moment here. lol

When I got to the Cornwall Hospital, I was immediately taken into one of their designated COVID rooms in Emergency. They took my vitals, my blood pressure was a little high, my oxygen levels were low. I was treated amazingly. I know every nurse practically in that ER. My friend Stefani came to see me, when she saw my name on the board. She gave me shit, but that's our little thing we joke about. She's the best RN to have ever graced the halls of that hospital.

When I was settled into my room in the ER, I get visit after visit. I have one Porter come in, and I hadn't seen him in along time. Ah the good old days. As we were visiting, I get a visit from a servant of GOD who was working intake in the hospital that day. My heavenly nurse Wendy, she saw my name come up as needing a room for admission, and she found one. I was in the ER for maybe 3 hours, then up in a room. ANNDD they gave me something to eat. Can you believe it, food, what a freaking concept.

I got a visit from the doctor on the ER round that day, Dr. Peffer. Another one of God's servants. He came in, got some information from me, and said that my kidney's have completely failed, that if I hadn't come in when I did I could have died. WHAT!

I was livid. Not with the doctor, but for Ottawa sending me home, when I was in Kidney/Renal failure. Dr. Peffer consulted with the Toronto transplant team, and my Kidney specialist in Ottawa, who didn't know I was in Ottawa either. Such good communication in Ottawa... ASSHOLES!

Anyway, seeing as this is becoming longer than I anticipated, I might have have a part 3.

Maybe I will do that.

Stay tuned next week for part 3 where we will talk about treatment and my stay in the hospital.

Love to you all
~Ali
